Dr. Kristin Wilson Grimes, Research Assistant Professor of Watershed Ecology at the University of the Virgin Islands, has worked to expand opportunities for women in the geosciences throughout her career. Recognizing the important role that diversity brings to innovation and creativity, she has fostered opportunities for under-represented minority students at UVI.

Dr. Kristin Wilson Grimes made her debut appearance on the TEDX stage this past summer with TEDxSaintThomas. Her talk, SEAS Your Tomorrow, is one that must be seen by anyone concerned about or interested in learning more about underrepresented minorities in the sciences. 

Dr. Nastassia Jones is the Assistant Professor of Science Education at the University of the Virgin Islands and Managing Director of the Virgin Islands Institute of Stem Education Research and Practice funded by VI-EPSCoR. With few role models, and fewer resources, how did an African American girl from the south grow up to be a doctor, a scientist, and a college professor?
