The COVID-19 pandemic has plunged education systems all over the world into uncharted and untested waters for teachers, students, and their parents.

There are predictable challenges for teachers in shifting from an in-person class to a digital learning format. Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett has created a resource and response to help USVI educators continue to develop the minds of our greatest resource, our children. Congresswoman Plaskett has reached out to a few of the USVI’s top educators to share their strategies and techniques for distance learning.

Among those selected educators is our own Virgin Island-Institute Science Education Research and Practice (VI-ISERP) Mentor Teacher, Ms. Michealrose Ravalier! As the 2020 St. Thomas District Teacher of the Year, she will offer insights into using home materials in science learning to boost engagement and strategies for leveraging educational technology.

We applaud Dr. Lisa Hassel-Forde, Zahra O’Reilly Bates, Dr. Valrica Bryson, and our own Michealrose Ravalier for supporting the success of every teacher and student during COVID-19 through this webinar.

VI-EPSCoR and VI-ISERP would like to thank teachers in the USVI and abroad for continuing the critical work of educating our children.
