Through the Ghut: A Ridge to Reef Story

In the U.S. Virgin Islands, water tells a story—one that researchers at the University of the Virgin Islands are working to decode. This film follows scientists as they study how rainwater moves through the island’s ghuts, carrying sediment and nutrients from the hills to the bays and coral reefs below. By tracking water flow, they uncover the hidden connections between land and sea, revealing how human activity shapes these fragile ecosystems. Their work not only deepens our understanding of watersheds but also informs efforts to protect reefs and coastal communities for future generations. This film was made by support from the National Science Foundation and Virgin Islands EPSCoR Filmed & Edited: Dan Mele
