Why Do Researchers Tag Endangered Sea Turtles at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas?

Biologists at the University of the Virgin Islands with support from VI-EPSCoR Mare Nostrum Caribbean are tagging endangered green and hawksbill sea turtles in an effort to better understand their populations within Brewers Bay. The data gathered from this ongoing project will help the island of St. Thomas to better protect, manage and conserve its sea turtles.

All turtle tagging and handling is done pursuant to fisheries permit #15809 for research and conservation purposes only
